The Catholic University Ice Hockey
has been a proud tradition since 1992. CUA is a serious program with
intentions of competing at the highest level of play. Incoming players
should have experience at the premier level of hockey, whether it be
High School, Midgets or Juniors. The team holds three on ice practices a
week at our home rink, Fort Dupont, and one off ice practice. This
practice includes running and weight room training. The team also
competes in two games each weekend. Players are expected to begin each
season in top shape and be ready to compete for roster spots. As a club
program, there are no tryouts, however, the team can only dress 21
players per game. Roster spots are competitive and determined by the
coaching staff.
Commitment
is a MUST to be a part of this program. Catholic University is not the
place to learn how to play hockey, but a place to take your ability to
the next level. The team also takes a dedicated interest in academics.
Students must maintain a 2.3 GPA to remain eligible. Team leaders offer
tutoring and help to teammates. Freshmen are also given guidance to make
the transition from High School to College a smooth one.
As
a member of the Blue Ridge Hockey Conference Colonial Division and ACHA
Division 3, we compete against teams from Pennsylvania to South
Carolina. We also play a very competitive non-league schedule against
top teams in the South Region. As one of the leading teams in the South
Region, we attract players from many of the top High Schools and club
teams in the Northeastern and Atlantic regions of the United States.
Every year the team goal is a league championship and an invitation to
the regional tournament.
